Sleepy Hollow Real Estate

Sleepy Hollow is one of the older established neighborhoods in San Anselmo. It is one of the few areas where one can find larger 1 acre+ lots with a choice of being in the flats or on the surrounding hills. The majority of the homes here are ranch style homes although many have been re-built or remodeled into a more contemporary look. In Sleepy Hollow there is typically an inventory of approximately 10 homes with an average price of $1.2 million. It is an area that is becoming recognized as one of the areas for getting better value on a “high-end” exclusive residence. Most of the homes are larger with many offering 5+ bedrooms on large private lots.

The “Hollow” is a safe environment with some of the best weather in Marin. There is a very strong neighborhood feeling to it with a community center and pool which boasts one of the best swim teams in the county. In addition, some properties are capable of keeping horses on them and there are excellent boarding stables and riding facilities at the San Domenico School which is one of the leading private K-8 schools in the county. Surrounded by hills and open space, the Hollow is a paradise for bikers and hikers with tennis, swimming, and horseback riding at ones doorstep. Brookside School, with upper and lower campuses, is the public school providing K-8 education for kids which is one of the best in the county. In addition, the community center has its own co-op school for toddlers.

San Anselmo Community Information

The town was mostly pastoral until 1875, when the North Pacific Railroad completed a line from Sausalito to Tomales, via San Anselmo. The town quickly became the “Hub” of much activity.

A beautiful stone castle overlooks San Anselmo. This castle is actually the San Francisco Theological Seminary, which was established in 1892 to train Presbyterian clergy. From the ivy covered chapel with its enchanting bells tolling the hours, to the turrets and towers, this beautiful facility has a delicate, fairy tale look to it.

The downtown area offers a variety of shops and restaurants. San Anselmo Avenue, the town’s main shopping area, is a curving boulevard of awning-shaded shops, cafes, galleries, restaurants, and boutiques. Sunset Magazine readers voted San Anselmo “Best in the West” for antiquing and the town is distinguished as the “Northern California Antique Capital”. Creek-side restaurants, cafes, galleries, antique shops, boutiques and a small winery contribute to downtown San Anselmo’s charming atmosphere. Self-guided walking tours of downtown area are available at Town Hall.

Some of San Anselmo’s many other attractions include the Robson-Harrington House and Park, the Carnegie Library and the American Legion Log Cabin. Annual events such as the Art and Wine Festival, Antiques Fair and town-wide antique sale, draw visitors from the surrounding communities and the entire San Francisco Bay Area.
